Clouds Up

Clouds Up is a portal to a temporary event space. The gate location is in Meriken Park situated in the harbor of Kobe city. The port is a face of the city to the world as Kobe is known as one of the busiest ports of Japan.

Clouds Up is a sculptural gate taking inspiration from a cloud floating in the distant sky. The ambiguous form lets viewers play a cloud game imagining different shapes. Like a cloud that is accumulation of air and water with varying densities, the egg-crate structure allows for a definition of the overall form without creating a solid separation.

Egg-crate structure is assembled by interlocking horizontal and vertical planes of plywood. After the completion of this temporary event, the gate is repurposed into a series of benches.
