「環」 - Kan

Kan is translated in Japanese as a ring, environment and also circulation.

24d-Studio was asked to design a group exhibition and pop-up store situated in gallery space in Kobe to celebrate the arrival of spring season.

Exhibited products included jewelry, stamp and calligraphy, jel flower and lighting fixtures. With varied products that seem to have no relations to each other, the challenge was to create a cohesive display surfaces and an atmosphere that unifies the products and two sections of the gallery floors.

Selling products needed to be the main focal point of the exhibition, but at the same time informal display method was needed to complement and unify the space where the upper and lower floors were disconnected.

The display surfaces are made of strengthen Japanese rice paper on a meandering wood frames. Seven types of panelized patterns were origami folded and connected to each other adding further stiffness for holding display products on top.

Overall surface creates a meandering landscape with flowing undulations, heights and dips that are specific to the displayed products.
